Great photos :)
I'm just curious why there were fireworks this weekend? To celebrate the long weekend?
Jenn, if you don't mind, I'll answer Jamie's question. The May long weekend originally was to celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday. She is the great-great grandmother of the current queen, Elizabeth II. When I was a kid we called the holiday Victoria Day. Firworks were used to close out the weekend. The weekend was known as Victoria Day weekend. The young people mostly now refer to it as the May Long. Anyway we all look forward to it as it is the much anticipated and much needed first long weekend after a long cold winter. It really is our kickoff to summer.
Hopefully this makes some sense to you. I love history so if you ever need clarification...
Jenn's Mom
Thanks Jenn's mom! How embarassing, huh? I live in Canada and never knew about the fireworks deal. Or, maybe I just lived in cheap towns that couldn't afford the fireworks to celebrate!
Do they do them in Winnipeg too?
I'll take this one ;) Yes, they have them in Winnipeg as well. It's not as big a deal any more as Canada Day is, but there are some displays throughout the city. In fact, Ken and I were in the back yard last night having a bonfire, and could hear them in the distance. If you have any more history/Canada type questions, my mom is definitely the one to ask.
Oh yeah...I like your pictures, Jenn :)
LOL - ok, so I DO live in cheap towns/cities that don't do fireworks LOL.
I've been missing out!
Thanks for the Canadian history lesson :)
I love the pictures.
